"The power, fervour and soul of Toots Hibbert's voice, ably demonstrated in a career spanning half a century (...), makes him and his group the ideal artists to launch a new series of deluxe album packages from the equally legendary Trojan Records ... Toots and his sidekicks (...) had previously cut admirable ska records, notably for Coxson Dodd and Prince Buster, but hit their musical zenith during their time at Leslie Kong's Beverley's label from 1968 to 1971. There, supported by the ever-firm Beverley's All Stars built around guitarist Hux Brown and bassist Jackie Jackson, they created classic records seemingly at will. Many will be familiar (...); others, less often heard, are no less noteworthy: the pretty "She's My Scorcher" and the rolling "It's You" could have been pop hits if Radio 1 had accorded them airplay, while the prowling, stripped-down "Johnny Cool Man" finds Toots turning in a near-perfect impersonation of Otis Redding".
