"This is one of those recordings that from the opening moments assures you that you won't be going anywhere - it's that good, it's that compelling, and it's absolutely essential".

"Some of it magnificence comes over in the new Harmonia Mundi recording, sith sleek playing from the Berlin period instruments players, though the choir sounds too slim-line for the big moments. The sound, too, could do with more clarity ... Daniel Reuss's conducting is slack".

"Choral & song choice: This is the best-ever recording of Solomon, and a highpoint for conductor Leonardo Garcia Alarcón's career ... The band thrills to Alarcón's gestures, delivering crisp rhythms, furious tempos - the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba is not to be missed - and languorous lines ... But the chorus is the star of this show. Handel reserved his most ingenious writing in Solomon for his world-class choristers, and the Namur chamber choir is their match".

"Gardiner is responsive to the work's unique opulence and its fragrant pastoral tinta ... Gardiner's Solomon, Carolyn Watkinson, sounds far more involved than McCreesh's Andreas Scholl".

"Alarcón's propulsive interpretation ... is 10 minutes quicker than Paul McCreesh's landmark recording ... The undue rush causes adverse consequences to musico-dramatic lucidity ... Solomon's accompagnato 'Almighty pow'r' is performed eloquently by Christopher Lowrey ... The finest stretch of Alarcón's performance is Part 3's masque presenting different musical moods that 'rouse each passion'".
