"Most of the tracks here are instrumentals, with Dave Delarre showing off his classical guitar and mandolin work on dance tunes such as Rannalla, and electric guitar on the elegant Easter Thursday, with classy violin and melodeon backing provided by his brother James and newcomer Nick Cooke. But Dave is less successful as a singer".

"Mawkin may be freshly shorn of their colon-ised collaborative moniker, but they're just as exuberantly preconception-defying as ever (rebels without a Causley?), producing Crow, a stimulating new offering that's even bolder and more adventurous than previous work while preserving the healthy attitude and empathic musical expertise that made them such a hit with critics and festival audiences alike ... Both as a consciously studio-generated product and a "keeper" memento of a storming live act, Crow can be regarded as something of a landmark in the ongoing development of this vital outfit".
