"She [Harteros] sings the songs marvellously ... Throughout the performance her tone is gorgeous ... Eine Alpensinfonie receives a very fine performance too. Thielemann is far too fastidious a conductor to adopt a sensationalist or picture postcard-style in this work. Instead he offers a finely controlled performance ... This is a very fine set of performances ... The camera work is excellent ... A splendid addition to the collection of any Strauss devotee".

"The deeper Strauss-orchestrated Lieder are beautifully served by Thielemann's characteristic translucency and Hartero's now unbeatable way with the longer phrases ... You sense her pulling Thielemann back, but he goes with her, and the results are predictably spellbinding. Perfect camerawork, too".

"The performance captured her [Eine Alpensinfonie] offers something special ... The orchestra offers glittering virtuosity when required ... Others might offer more thrills (and spills), but few offer such coherence ... Anja Harteros offers wonderful performances [The Strauss songs], and the voice ... is still beguilingly soft-grained; but the performances are distinguished primarily by the singer's sheer musicality ... Rihm's own Ernster Gesang provides a suitably sincere and autumnal opening to what was clearly an outstanding concert".
