"There's nothing but finely sculpted muscle, with even the handful of slower cuts--"Steam of Hercules," the closing "First Time Joy" -- grinding with precise purpose. Mostly, The Silver Age bursts forth with relentless momentum, alternating between such nervy, coiled explosions of energy as "The Descent" and the classic power pop of "Round the City Square".

"Noget tyder på, at Bob Mould efter mange års indre konflikter har udlevet sine dæmoner, for Silver Age er simpelthen det bedste udspil fra ham i årevis ... Melodimaterialet er ganske enkelt så slidstærkt og medrivende, at interessen holdes fanget på samtlige 10 numre".

"Silver Age is a suitably self-deprecating title from an artist whose considerable cachet hasn't always allowed him to cash in; Mould effectively owns up to his contrarian tendencies when, in "The Descent", he admits, "I didn't want to play the song/ That gave people so much hope." But as a showcase of a seasoned master in his element, Silver Age's bounty of direct, distorto-pop hits measures up to Mould's gold standard".
