"All three of these very different chamber pieces clearly reveal a wonderful composer ... The Serenade ... is indubitably a winning performance of Dohnányi's best-known chamber work ... If the Quartet blindsided me, I was even more taken with Dohnányi's Sextet of 1935 ... Dohnányi's Sextet is played here with ardent conviction while the presence of the wind instruments lends a yet more pleasing bloom to Hyperion's sound. It concludes a revealing disc which can only encourage those of us who had previously written off this composer to seek out more of his attractive and resourcefully made music".

"The Nash Ensemble's high voltage interpretation [of the Third Quartet] serves the music well, having tremendous physical impact and bringing an unusual, urgent intensity ... The Nash Ensemble triumphantly surmounts all the technical challenges while projecting absolute enjoyment of and devotion to the music".

"Editor's choice: The Nash Ensemble dig into Dohnányi's Serenade (1902) with gusto, relishing the music's myriad felicities ... Their performance is rife with character and incident ... The Nash's performance of the Third String Quartet (1926) is more impressive still ... If you've never taken to Dohnányi's music before, these performances should win you over. If you're already a convert, you'll want this".
