"Willoughby's Lament, while less immediately engaging [than Brown's debut The Wall I Built for Myself], displays Brown's growing confidence and willingness to expand his sonic palette. Ultimately, it is a stronger album than its predecessor and gives reason to regret that Brown's recording career effectively ended here".

"Heady, luminescent and relentlessly gorgeous, tracks such as Death In Dreams and Of Breath And Skin define an acid-folk behemoth who should never have been allowed to vanish for 45 years. Happily, he's back and even performing again".
