"Talking Heads' influential debut album is expanded to give a detailed and thrilling picture of the year that it all came together for the New York band ... As Super Deluxe Editions go, 'Talking Heads: 77' could hardly be a better record of that particular year in Talking Heads history. Thanks in part to its simplicity and eternal oddness, the album itself sounds impossibly fresh. With hindsight, it's obviously the sound of 1977, but it still sounds utterly contemporary too".

"An emotional blast carefully packed into tight, angular arrangements: The Super Deluxe Edition of Talking Heads' 77 is focused, unsettling and damn near indispensable".

"The package is worthwhile for the remaster of the album and the alternate takes, which at a minimum, are interesting ... The true star of the show here is the live recording, which slots in fine with 'Stop Making Sense' and the sadly overlooked 'The Name of This Band is Talking Heads'".

"'Talking Heads: 77' ranks among the most striking, fully realized, and important debut albums of the punk/new wave era that spawned it, though it doesn't particularly sound like punk or new wave. In fact, it sounds like nothing else, before or since, unless you count the group's own subsequent LPs ... If you don't already own 'Talking Heads:77' - which sounds as vital as ever nearly half a century after its release - buying this box set should be a no-brainer. Even if you have the original album and many of the ostensible rarities, however, there are at least two compelling reasons to pick this up. One is the Blu-ray, whose surround-sound tracks add significantly to the power of the music. The other is the [previously unreleased] CBGB concert, which features fired-up performances of eight of the 11 numbers on 'Talking Heads:77' plus [more]".
