"Pleasing, mesmerising, irritating ... Einstein on the Beach provokes many responses over its four-and-a-half-hour duration ... This immaculately realised revival, filmed in Paris in 2014 ... is a living monument to a work that marked the arrival on the world stage of a ... successful composer ... Its four principal vocalists ... and choir cope admirably with the fiendish demands of Glass ... The Philip Glass Ensemble's playing is vibrant ... The overall effect is simultaneously alienating and immersive".

"Given its unconventional nature and combination of unusual vocal and instrumental forces, performances of Einstein on the Beach have been few and far between ... In 2012 a new production toured the opera worldwide ... Brilliantly shot with excellent sound quality ... it's also an accurate representation of how Glass and Wilson originally envisaged it. With excellent performances ... this is as close to a definitive version of the opera as you're likely to get".
