"Excellent" - "Having explored a vast range of styles in their celebrated history, Opeth aren't bringing much new to the table for their 13th album. Instead, the secret weapon of "In Cauda Venenum" lays in how the band wields their considerable strengths and in this regard, they are supremely victorious. As one of the most consistent albums of their career, "In Cauda Venenum" is relentless in its emotion, its range of dynamics and its overall quality. A highlight of 2019 and beyond".

"If not for the superior variety and scope of Pale Communion, In Cauda Venenum would absolutely be Opeth's best album in a decade. Like most great records, it takes a few deep listens to appreciate fully, but the reward is easily worth the investment. Rather than stray from the systems of its immediate predecessors,In Cauda Venenum finely tunes them into an immensely concentrated and unswerving "observation" (as Åkerfeldt calls them) whose medieval core creates one of their most unified sequences thus far. It probably won't win back anyone who departed after Watershed, but those who've stuck around will undoubtedly adore it".

"In Cauda Venenum kræver meget tid og mange gennemlytninger. Ikke fordi det er en plade, man lige skal vænne sig til, men fordi den er så kompleks og interessant, at ved de første mange gennemlytninger, føltes det som at høre den igen for første gang ... Det er organisk, et sværd dyppet i gift og honning og med en dybde, jeg endnu ikke har loddet færdig. Jeg tøver ikke med at kalde In Cauda Venenum deres bedste plade i mange år - på niveau med deres bedste nogensinde".
