Description

Summary: As an artist signed at just 13, 'Love & Compromise' is the rich fruit of Mahalia's developmental journey thus far. On her debut LP, Mahalia's playfully infectious spirit intertwines with her youthful charisma, idiosyncratic storytelling, and consciousness - attributes that have set her apart from her peers and seen her become one of the UK's most-loved rising stars.

"No matter how detailed the productions get, they don't obstruct the vocals, which are consistently dynamic without being showy. Going by the natural charm of the album and the fun Mahalia seemed to have in making it - the smile cracked in the chorus of "I Wish I Missed My Ex" is the clearest evidence - she might only be getting started".

"'Love and Compromise' is a gorgeous triumph. It's a stellar debut album filled with intelligently written songs. Throughout it's permeated with Mahalia's gorgeous honeyed vocals and brilliantly honest lyrics, which shine whether she's soulfully crooning over jazzy production (slow jam 'Karma') or fiercely telling a man to back off (the dancehall-flecked 'Simmer')".

"Love and Confidence may feel as if it was a long time coming but the twists and turns it took for Mahalia to get to this point, from romantic failures to professional struggles, were what pushed her from having a talent to becoming a unique voice".
