"Revival pairs Bellowhead with pop producer Rupert Christie (U2, Green Day, Echo & the Bunnymen), who has tightened up the arrangements even more and coaxed a bright and exultant work out of the band. From their inspired takes on the old chanteys "Let Her Run" and "Roll Alabama" to the brilliant cosmic psych-folk of standout "Moon Kittens," Revival ranks among their best work and is definitely their most contemporary effort in tone".

"Island Records have finally remembered that they were one of the great folk labels of the 1970s, and are now trying to catch up with the current revival. Signing Bellowhead was an obvious, but shrewd move, especially as they have teamed up with U2 and Coldplay arranger Rupert Christie to make their most commercial album to date. The formula remains the same, with traditional songs reworked with rousing big-band arrangements, and from furious opener Let Her Run to the rock-influenced Greenwood Side, they sound slicker and more confident than ever".

""Revival" feels like an understatement; the fifth album by purist-riling folk troupe Bellowhead doesn't so much coax these traditional songs back to life as apply repeated surges of energy to shock them from the grave. Syncopated stabs of brass, helter-skelter fiddles and call-and-response vocals jostle for space in these ebullient arrangements ... But what the band sacrifices in nuance is more than made up for in tankards-aloft gusto".

"After 10 years of fanciful big band folk their rip'n'roar is mightier than ever ... Having long lifted the roof at festivals, the 11-piece Bellowhead now assume the mantle of Brit folk's primary flagship charged with the duty of taking traditional song to the masses. Rather romantically it has landed them at Island Records where, with characteristic joie de vivre, they reinvent one of the label's most beloved folk "hits", Richard & Linda Thompson's I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight".

"The brass section is certainly now firing on all cylinders, adding even more to their always formidable charge to counterpoint the more lyrical excursions of the string section and the ever-imaginative drumming of Pete Flood. The rhythmic emphasis they employ here - particularly on tracks like "Greenwood Tree" and "Let Union Be" - even conjure up scattered images of old-school folk rock underlined by a rare assault outside of the tradition, doffing their caps to their new Island home with a funky version of the Richard & Linda Thompson "hit" "I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight"".
