"Inevitably with an album of this scale, there are moments where Hart's attempts at role-play supersede the songcraft (like the one-note 60s-psych stomp of "I Am Death," or the wind-chimed haze of the overlong title track). But for all its sprawl, The Argument maintains a brisk pace, with a White Album-inspired sense of irreverence that ensures Hart never gets stuck in place for long".

"Ambitious doesn't begin to describe The Argument, but considering how relatively under the radar he's been flying in recent years, it's fun to see him reemerge with something big. It hits and misses, but it's a memorable record from a songwriter worthy of the attention".
