"+1 is a stunningly eclectic and talent-packed collection that accurately reflects Mike Barnett's range and gifts as a fiddle player and composer, while generously spotlighting the talents of his musical collaborators. A brilliantly realised feelgood project that roams across acoustic genres, I'm sure that +1 will continue to reveal its musical and emotional layers with repeated listenings".

"One measure of fiddling phenom Mike Barnett's stature in the world of acoustic roots music is the line-up of partners who contributed to this brilliantly executed session of duet performances (...) - each a sparkling gem in a cluster of bluegrass ('Born to Be with You'), bebop ('Dexterity'), chamber grass ('Piece o' Shrimp'), Irish reels ('The Breath and the Bow') and other genres ... Like individual entries in a journal, the 14 songs on +1 describe a musical journey from Barnett's native Nashville to Brooklyn ('Higher Ground'), from fiddle camps ('Somewhere in the Middle') to touring Eastern Europe ('Bucharest'), and from slots in bands led by Tony Trischka and David Grisman to present company with Ricky Skaggs' Kentucky Thunder ('Little Sisters Medley'). Standing out among the highlights, 'Righteous Bell' features Barnett and Jarosz trading fiddle and clawhammer banjo riffs in a call to unity in the face of chaos, composed during the lead-up to the 2016 US presidential election".
