[Gonzalez] strips the fireside warmth from a set of traditional carols by placing them in minor-key arrangements, alongside sombre readings of Wham! and Mariah Carey. The best moments coincide with the arrival of Feist and Jarvis Cocker; the formers' co-write with Gonzalez, "The Banister Bough", is a shivery meditation; Cocker's spoken-word imprint on "In The Bleak Midwinter" are deepened by cello.
