"Acis et Galatée, Lullys letzte Oper ... musste ohne grosse Bühneneffekte auskommen, sozusagen eine Oper zum Hören. Christophe Rousset ist ein Experte für solche Hörbilder und mit seiner neunten Lully-Einspielung sowieso ein Expert für diesen Komponisten".

"Opera choice: Rousset's mesmerising conducting binds chorus to band in Lully's most striking passages ... The principals are equally arresting ... The palm, however, goes to the band and chorus of the Les Talens Lyriques, whose 30th anniversary this recording marks, as they deliver in spades the utmost precision, energy and passion which Lully's opera demands".

"'Acis et Galatée' is the last completed opera in Lully's distinguished output ... Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques are old hands at Lully's stage works - this is their 10th - and sound stylistically spot on. The orchestra is warn and caressing, the choir clear and agile, and Rousset draws lovely timbre and line from them throughout. Cyril Auvity's delicate 'haute-contre' gives Acis a fitting sense of vulnerability, and as Galatea Ambroisine Bré's combination of tonal depth and hard sheen bring edge to her disdain and power to her mourning ... Although there's little to choose between ... perhaps the greater beauty and stlistic assurance of the Rousset just carries the day".
