"Portuguese fado and Argentinian tango to some extent occupy the same passionate space, with their emotional, flowing, surging melodies, spacious, liquid instrumentation and the important role of their poetic lyrics. Indeed on this album one track, "Tango Quase Fado" ("Tango Nearly Fado") alternates between fado and a tango, adding bandoneon to fado's standard guitarra and guitar. Another (...) reaches out to Brazilian samba ... [Pires] is a fine, clear-voiced singer, poised, elegant, not theatrically over-emoting, just expressive in telling the song. She's accompanied by [a] top-class trio (...), who command creatively all the musical forms involved; no standard fado-fouse trio this".
