"Guth, som vi husker for hans uhørt kuldslåede, Hitchcock-mørke Figaro i Salzburg i Mozartåret, er denne gang tættere på Bogart og Bergman ... Scenen under prologen er tom. Først med selve operadelen får vi farver og forestilling for pengene. Det er en stram og god disposition, der tjener værket ... Dohnányis Strausshåndtering er sublim, og Elena Mosuc er en rent ud eksemplarisk Zerbinetta med sin smukke, samlede klang i rollens store koloraturudgydelser".

"Thielemann does not disappoint ... The attention to textural detail is to be treasured ... Fleming's sense of the Straussian line cannot be faulted ... Koch is the wonderful Composer - impetuous, nervous, practically feverish in her passions ... Robert Dean Smith has a voice that lacks an individual stamp but his absolute security and tirelessly make his Bacchus ... a success ... So, a mixed bag. Fans of Fleming will not see or hear anything wrong ... but she does not shine ... The production is a dud, and one can do better on DVD ".

Das Vorspiel wird so zu einer langweiligen Ansammlung alter Theater-witze ... Und Renée Fleming ... scheint in der neuen Rolle noch nicht wirklich zu Hause ... Die Dresdner Staatskapelle beherrscht das Werk im Traum, doch der sonst so versierte Thielemann lässt überdeutlich alle an seinem Stab kleben, erlaubt kaum Freiraum".

"Were it not for a few minutes of unfortunate staging ... my assessment of Glyndebourne's 2013 Ariadne would be an unqualified rave ... for this is otherwise a simply fabulous achievement from all concerned. The guiding spirit clearly is Vladimir Jurowski ... The LPO ... offering playing of the utmost sensitivity and accomplishment ... German director Katharina Thoma brilliantly reimagines Ariadne ... The cast is stellar ... For me, Glyndebourne's is henceforth the Ariadne DVD of choice".
