Beacon of faith

"Jeg blev fejet væk, og jeg anede ikke hvorfor. Indtil jeg tog pladen i høretelefonerne på en løbetur, og det hele faldt på plads: `Beacon of Faith' minder mig om Converges `No Heroes', som jeg lærte at kende ved at løbe til den på et længere skoleophold i sin tid, og som i årevis har været min go-to-plade, når jeg skulle have ekstra fart på løbeturene ... Der er ikke en masse andet, man er nødt til at tage stilling til, inden man bare sætter i gang. Det står i udpræget grad én frit for at lade den vække det hos én, man ønsker at lade den vække. Om det så er lysten til at brænde civilisationen ned eller bare løbe en tur ud af den. Det er en plade, der minder én om, at spændet mellem de to yderpunkter sjældent er så stort igen. Og som minder én om, hvor fedt det er at føle sådan".

"Baptists are one of the more interesting hardcore bands of the current generation. Hailing from Vancouver, they immediately caught the attention of Southern Lord, through which they have released their self-titled debut EP and their two previous full-length records. The sound of the band is direct and straightforward, and at first glance, they seem like they have a singular focus on hardcore ... In the context of hardcore music Baptists is a different animal, and while the core ideas and structures of Beacon of Faith are solid and very well formed, it's their tendency to extend their ideas forward that sets them apart. It is a lesson in the controlled chaos that they are unleashing, and they are not many that can do it as masterfully as Baptists".
