"Bibb's fine collaboration with Malian Habib Koite, Brothers in Bamako, stands up well next to Cooder and Toure's Talking Timbuktu ... Bibb and Koite's effort is a mix of traditional African music, folk, gospel and blues offerings, sung in various languages, including some English. All the songs are acoustic. The selection is surprisingly eclectic, including African-flavored folk tunes".

"This is a succesful record. Lots have bought it and lots more will. The quality of musicianship from two bona fide heroes, the quality of production, and the potential for blues/roots US-Malian cross-fertilisation - there's a lot to like. Just a little to carp about ... Touma Ni Kelen/Needed Time is a true joint effort. Down-home picking with gospel echoes from Bibb and a stellar lead from Koite. The symbiosis is clear".
