"Brazilian singer and guitarist Célia's international renown has been something of a retrospective affair, her discography rediscovered largely thanks to her frequent collaborations with Arthur Verocai ... Her debut was the first of four self-titled efforts she cut with the genius composer/arranger, alongside famed Tropicalia producer Rogerio Duprat. With such talent at her disposal (legendary bossa chanteause Joyce was also on hand), it's an album rich with craft (...), elegant string and big band arrangements lending the likes of "Durango Kid" a sense of high drama perfectly in tune with Celia's bold and brassy vocals. Best of the bunch here are "David", a frenetic bossa number replete with Joyce-esque rhythmical guitar lines and a brilliantly husky vocal performance: the samba funk of the sultry "Zózoio - Como É Que É"; and elegant closer "Fotograma"".
