"Robert Forster's solo debut saw him reinvented a touch as the classic traditionalist - certainly the cover photo, black and white with him dressed in a neat suit, looks like it could have been taken somewhere in rural America circa 1920 ... The album is a fine first step away from the constraints of the Go-Betweens and proves that Forster is more than able to go his own way.".

"Berlin's Hansa Ton (...) hot-housed one of Forster's most significant titles, his solo debut, "Danger In The Past", which he realised with help from Bad Seeds alumni Mick Harvey and Thomas Wydler ... Its memorable, James Joyce-esque sleeve perfectly mirrors its contents, with the passionate "Heart Out To Tender", redemptive "Justice" and tangled'n'blue Dylan-isms of "Baby Stones" arguably pre-eminent in a uniformly alluring selection of dashing pop songs".
