"The folklore as it was written in 1960 - Energised by good reviews for her debut album, She's Like A Swallow And Other Folk Songs, Bonnie Dobson took full advantage of Rudy Van Gelder's state-of-the-art studio in New Jersey to further document her education in the ballads and laments of her chosen subject. Assisted by Isabel and Peter Gardener, Dobson already had grounding in the folk clubs of Vancouver but was starting to emerge as a major player in the US. The lilting title piece and the dark The Cruel Mother showcase her powerful and intense delivery, but she is also eclectic enough to interpret Blues Jumped A Rabbit, and dips a toe into songwriting herself on Ben's Lullaby - though her classic Morning Dew was not yet captured on disc and remained a work in progress".
