"Warner's production is worthy of this magnificent work, and she has secured disciplined and stylish performances from her cast. Visually it is both stunning and haunting ... So much depends on the role of Aschenbach, and here John Graham-Hall does a fine job ... Andrew Shore is superb; he manages to give each one an individuality ... So is this the best Death in Venice on DVD? I suspect it is, for it is very fine".

"Benjamin Brittens sidste opera blev "Døden i Venedig" ... På en ny dvd fra Naxos, optaget på Madrids Teatro Real i december 2014, yder den britiske tenor John Daszak en formidabel præstation i hovedpartiet, både scenisk og vokalt. Iscenesættelsen ved Willy Decker er på én gang nøgtern og fantasifuld, og det spanske orkester yder brittens raffinerede partitur fuld retfærdighed, ikke mindst imponeres man over træblæsernes indsats".

"Det er et meget stiliseret for ikke at sige klaustrofobisk Venedig, man møder i Pier Luigi Pizzis sikre iscenesættelse. Der er ikke meget solskin over lagunebyen i denne version af operaen ... Som Gustav von Aschenbach har den amerikanske tenor Marlin Miller den altdominerende hovedrolle. Han er måske en smule for ungdommelig til at spille den aldrende forfatter, men både hans sang og ageren holder et ypperligt niveau. Det samme gælder hele holdet bag denne produktion".
