"Above all, though, it is Keilberth's conducting that makes this such an involving experience. He obtains superlative playing from the orchestra - the overture is a gripping microcosm of the drama to come - as well as galvanising the chorus. It's wonderfully theatrical".

"It's good to have this classic live performance back ... In its combination of cast and conductor this outclasses worthy Bayreuth rivals under Nelsson, Böhm and Sawallisch. Alongside Klemperer's searing three-Act studio recording and Steinberg's spirited bargain set, it ranks as a prime recommendation".

"Minkowski's Holländer is an excellent performance, sweeping, vital and atmospheric, carried along by Evgeny Nikitin's dark, resentful Dutchman and Ingela Brimberg's fresh-voiced, edgy Senta ... By itself, Holländer would be a leading recommendation; with Vaisseau Fantôme, probably an infrequent listen, it's an expensive prospect".

"Vurdering: E (Editor's choice)" - "The new Pentatone release is a good start to the new Wagner cycle, the best all-round modern performance of the opera and a good nod towards the original-instrument version of this edition of the score we still need".

"In sum, this version is, for better or worse, a snapshot of Wagnerian vocal standards in the second decade of the twenty-first century ... Janowski's conducting has a momentum and sense of abstract theatre which can take the breath away".

"Vurdering: Editor's choice" - "For my money, this extraordinarily "live" reading of Wagner's windswept score has the edge, even over the admirable studio alternative".
