"The people from Stick In The Wheel (...) say very little about their intentions beyond a few lines that include visiting prominent singers "in front rooms, kitchens, with two pairs of microphones, capturing immediate intimate performances." They have been almost entirely succesful in this and at times have captured recordings that show rare power and beauty ... The defining quality that this approach brings to the album is the unadulterated sound of the singing. Those of us who remember June Tabor in her unamplified club days will be reminded of them by her contribution. There is lots unaccompanied singing; hardly any guitar. It all sounds very straightforward, very honest, very English, very enjoyable".
