"Maren Morris has put forth what is not only one of the best country albums this year, but one of the best country albums of the 2010s decade so far; and she does so by avoiding typical conventions of mainstream country music; Morris had her horizons broadened long before she rose to mainstream prominence, and she deserves every bit of it. Country fans, enjoy. Country detractors, listen up and listen well. You are looking at 2016's first true album of the year contender, and aforementioned, Morris deserves every bit of credit that will undeniably come her way as her career further takes off".

"At her core, Morris is a singer/songwriter in the vein of Brandy Clark, Miranda Lambert, and Kacey Musgraves - writers with a keen eye for telling domestic details, composing songs that draw upon tradition but address the present ... Hero belongs to the digital era but it's the songs - smart, sharp, and hooky - that make this a great modern pop album, regardless of genre".

"Stemmen har noget af Rihannas seje hæshed, og Maren Morris kender hiphoppens beskidte tricks. Men 26-årige Maren Morris skriver sine sange efter countryens forskrifter. På den flabede gode debut lyder hun derfor som en, der kommer til at ændre spillets regler".
