"By working exclusively with a lineup that's been largely in place for 16 years - only drummer Jon Theodore hasn't been around that long, he's been a part of the group for a decade - Homme is able to steer QOTSA toward their essence, laying down a foundation of gnarled, greasy guitars that allow the band either to soar to the horizons or plummet to earthy depths".

"'In Times New Roman' is unlikely to win over those perched on the fence, though all-encompassing adoration perhaps doesn't fit a period that has left so many deep scars. They've pitched their comeback between an emotional exorcism for Homme, but with enough fan-service for the die-hards; this is up there with their darkest, knottiest material to date, and will be appreciated all the more for it".

"On its angriest and heaviest record in years, the rock band restores its bluesy, primitive sound as Joshua Homme confronts his recent turmoil".

Josh Homme med andre ord trukket Queens of the Stone Age tilbage på fast grund rent musikalsk".
