"Nick Cave giver den som bluescrooner på City In Pain, Steve Wynn har gashåndtaget i bund på den skramlende garagerocker From Death To Texas, mens Mark Lanegan & Isobel Campbells herligt valsende udgave af The Breaking Hands fra Gun Clubs Mother Juno er et af de mange stjerneskud. Nick Cave & Deborah Harry prøver kræfter med selv samme i en lidt for dilettantisk udgave. Den møgbeskidte udgave af In My Room med Tex Perkins (The Cruel Sea) & Lydia Lunch er et rent adrenalinkick, mens Mick Harvey topper på højdepunktet, den spøgelsesagtige St. Mark's Place".

"The credits have Pierce playing guitar on some, nothing on others, but his stamp is loud and clear on the gutsy flair of From Death to Texas (performed by Steve Wynn) or the keening tug of The Breaking Hands (which is interpreted here twice, first by Mark Lanegan and Isobel Campbell and then by the dream pairing of Nick Cave and Deborah Harry, who are joined by Mick Harvey and Chris Stein). Cave also sings City in Pain, this album's opener, all restrained aggression and controlled desire".
