"On the present recording, conductor Howard Arman has interpolated within the 'Coronation Mass' religious works that Mozart composed contemporaneously ... These insertions between individual parts of the Missa do not disrupt its coherence, but situate it historically without attempting to reconstruct a specific occasion. Arman adds musical context to 'period' performance practice, which tends to focus on instruments and voice types ... This release is a valuable contribution to the discography and fares well in comparison with other historically-informed recordings ... Katharina Konradi's refulgent soprano solos in the Kyrie and the Agnus Dei equal the finest on record ... The rest of the vocal quartet ... deliver precision and emotional engagement ... The Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks conveys a sense of religious devotion, which suits this music ... Under Arman's direction, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin exudes panache".

"Arman is an attentive Mozartian. He's particularly alert to the felicities of Mozart 's instrumental writing, both colouristically, and in its role as agent of thematic integration. Throughout, the support from the Berlin Akademie is invigorating - a perfect match for the fastidious precision of the Bavarian Radio Choir ... Headed up by the poised and radiant soprano Katharina Konradi, the solo vocal quartet adds further lustre to a coronation-driven release crowned by illuminating insights and expressive acuity".

"The music's dramatic quality is lacking in these performances. That may partly be due to the chorus being rather distantly balanced, but Laurence Equilbey hardly seems to respond to the essential character in these pieces".

"The Mass - a favourite of choral societies - sells itself, and its attractiveness is enhanced here by Howard Arman's impeccably drilled Munich choir and a quartet of charismatic soloists".

"Mozartians will be excited to hear a solo quartet led by the soprano Sandrine Piau in this music, and by the high-class contributions of Laurence Equilbey's own crack chamber-choir Accentus and the newly formed period-instrument Insula Orchestra".
