"La Resurrezione is the largest and longest piece from Handel's Italian period, an oratorio offering two hours of music originally played by nearly fifty instrumentalists ... Unlike some other commentators, I cannot say that I always find the music here in general to be Handel's best ... The score calls for soloists of the highest calibre. Lucy Crowe's pure, agile, fluty soprano is a joy throughout, as is Iestyn Davies' warm countertenor, especially when it is matched with the viola da gamba ... Tenor Hugo Hymas is a pleasing, light Evangelist who sings his gentle arias suavely and expressively".

"Recording of the month: La Resurrezione is one of Handel's greatest works, and Harry Bicket has gifted us its greatest recording ... Bicket and his stellar cast embrace Handel's radical approach, turning sacred figures ... into intensely dramatic ones. Handel gave instruments their own actor-like parts, which The English Concert deliver ravishingly ... You will recognise much of this music: Handel stole from earlier works ... The artist also plunder Handel's score, enriching us with a trove of their own ideas".

"Haïm conducts her Concert d'Astrée players with all the flair and expressivity one expects from her ... Apart from my proviso about Tilling's opening aria, the general quality of singing on this new issue tips the balance in its favour among the currently available recordings".
