"MCIII is Mikal Cronin's biggest- and brightest-sounding album yet. Complementing Cronin the multi-instrumentalist (he plays guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and saxophone) are a string quartet and two horn players. They contribute lush string and woodwind embellishments to a number of songs and, for the most part, they feel like a good match for Cronin's classicist pop-rock melodies ... MCIII might fail to live up to its billing as concept album, but it absolutely doesn't fail to provide a steady stream of big-hearted guitar-pop songs".

"Mikal Cronin's third album, MCIII, is the result of his efforts to go big, and in his case the gamble pays off big-time, resulting in his most pleasing record to date. MCIII is split into two thematic parts, with the first side being huge, hooky pop songs filled with pianos, strings, earwormy guitar lines, and some of the most straightforward and impressive melodies Cronin has committed to tape yet. Almost any one of them could be hit singles".
