"Reggae Film Star delves deeper into the imagined behind-the-camera realities of show business for a C-lister in an era populated by vinyl records, cigarettes, and celluloid. It finds him recording again with multi-instrumentalist Josh Gordon, his sole accompanist for the bulk of these releases, although here, he's also joined by a trio of string players, several backing vocalists, and a pianist for an album that is more cinematic than the intervening releases in more ways than one".

"While revisiting a treasured childhood TV show, the amber-voiced songwriter reaches back for the psychedelic majesty of his work with the late Richard Swift".

"Reggae Film Star is not an album that provides easy answers, but despite its cryptic nature, it never feels dense beyond interpretation, and that is thanks to Jurado's entrancing way with words. You feel he is unspooling a set of clues before your eyes that a new truth might reveal itself at every turn. It's an addictive listen, full of faded beauty and lit by distant hope".
