Regimental Sgt. Zippo

Description

Summary: The legendary 'album that never was' for Elton John. Signed to DJM as an artist in early 1968, he cut twelve tracks at DJM Studios in London's New Oxford Street for a debut album that was never released. As part of the excavation of material for Elton's Jewel Box collection, the original running order was located. After the success of its limited release in mono for Record Store Day 2021, it is now available on CD.

"This album of psychedelic, Beatles-inspired Taupin/John songs was shelved at the very start of Elton's career, but it has a naive charm and shows hints of what was to come".

"This take on Regimental Sgt. Zippo is a what if: what if Elton John had become a psychedelic popster in 1968? ... Even so and despite not convincingly making its case as a for-real unreleased album, this Regimental Sgt. Zippo is a winner. "Total rubbish" said Elton John in 1972. Pshaw.".
