"The material (...) is performed as duets or by small ensembles - often quartets - featuring tar, zurna (shawm), or possibly kamancha and the balaban pipe with percussion. Styles range from the more sedate to wilder mountain influences and the variation in tone of the wind instrumentation is a fascinating aspect. Two tracks featuring both zurna and a drone zurna have the tone and drive of Moroccan music, while others featuring balaban, played both normally and as a drone, recall the kaval flute sound of the Balkans".
