"During a busy year of touring and releasing what would end up being their final studio album, Built to Last, the Grateful Dead made a midsummer stop in Washington, D.C. for a pair of spirited shows at RFK Stadium. Previously unreleased and culled from the band's own 24-track master tapes, the July 12 & 13 shows from 1989 occurred during what many fans consider to be one of their strongest late-period runs. Still enjoying the heightened commercial success from their 1987 hit "Touch of Grey," their repertoire of classic set staples and newly embraced standouts like "Hell in a Bucket" showed a band firing on all cylinders. Joining keyboardist Brent Mydland - who would tragically pass away a year later - for a handful of songs each night was part-time contributor Bruce Hornsby on accordion. Other highlights include particularly nice versions of "Sugaree," "Eyes of the World," and an early version of Mydland's "I Will Take You Home," which appeared on Built to Last later that year".
