"Two decades later, Metallica reunite with the San Francisco Symphony for a chiefly fans-only document that adds more needless orchestration to already orchestral metal songs".

"The orchestra spars with Metallica, who seem invigorated by playing at a scale so grand it can seem to verge upon the ludicrous. What makes S&M2 so absorbing and entertaining is how all the musicians involved embrace both the ridiculousness and seriousness of their endeavor, creating a glorious overblown noise impressive in its ambition, heft, and unspoken absurdity".

"Ulrich uses the word "intense", and he's not wrong: it's hard to conceive of any metal band on the planet delivering a more impactful masterclass in sturm und drang muscle flexing. No mere nostalgia trip, S&M2 stands as a tribute both to Metallica's growing confidence as players and composers, and an absolute vindication of their decision to revisit one of their most inspired creative outings. Within our world, they remain utterly fearless and inarguably peerless".

"S&M2 er ikke så intimt et set-up som 1'eren. Det bidrager bestemt sine steder med atmosfære, at et stort publikumskor skråler med på de mange kendinge. Som pakke er S&M2 med såvel billed- og lydside og mere end to timers musik valuta for pengene. Men det kommer med den hage, at der er for mange overflødige minutter".
