"With the fountain of material springing out of Newcombe's Berlin studio in the first part of the 2010s, the quality level has been rather hit or miss, but Something Else is a solid effort and somewhat of a return to form for the veteran band".

"In fact the title of the new album is a bit of a misnomer: it is less experimental than BJM's recent releases and a return to the more retro sound of their earlier work, which reincarnated Californian hippiness. There are mixed results as some tracks on Something Else feel like the band are going through the motions, while others flow with more energy".
