"Coming fast on the heels of Eric Clapton: Life In 12 Bars, comparisons are inevitable, and Still On The Run is considerably lighter on personal revelation. If there's a central theme, it's that after realising he would never find another Rod Stewart, listening to John McLaughlin and Miles Davis persuaded him "to make his guitar his voice", a decision that resulted in the change of direction heralded by 1975's all-instrumental Blow By Blow ... Yet if Longfellow's objective is to restate Beck's claim as the equal of Clapton and Page in the trinity of British rock guitar pioneers, then Still On The Run does a decent job. "People need to up their awareness of him," Ronnie Wood claims. "I mean, where have they been?".

"Jeff's solo work has covered blues, rock, fusion and more recently a lot of more experimental work. The reconnecting with Page is covered, jamming on stage with him, there's some fantastic work shown that's previously unreleased. And what's obvious throughout is Jeff's passion for both guitar and cars. Yes, there are gaps, and some is skimmed over, but given the length, depth, quantity and quality, no one project could hope to do complete justice to, but what this does do is get you wanting to investigate a whole lot more ... A wonderful guitarist and a wonderful production".

"Unlike its decidedly idiosyncratic subject, Still On The Run: The Jeff Beck Story is a wholly conventional piece of video work focusing almost exclusively on the musical progression of the British guitar hero. It may be intended less for devoted fans than those more casual musiclovers who've had their curiosity piqued about what of the man's done and how he's done it over the course of a fifty-year plus career, Nevertheless, the most fervent admirers of this one-of-a-kind musician will come away feeling justified in their loyalty".
