"In a break from the icy, folktronica of their previous album, Raphaelle Standell-Preston of Braids fame, and Alexander Kerby, take their Blue Hawaii project to the disco, channeling Debut-era Björk, the bedroom dance-pop of The xx, and the tropes of tropical house. There's some clever genre satire on Tenderness, and plenty of pleasure-centre hitting pop deliciousness, all centred around that singular voice".

"In learning how to write great pop songs, the duo have leaned less on club music. There are danceable beats all over Tenderness, but they're rarely the focal point. The chopped vocals and looping of Untogether are nowhere to be found here. As a result, Blue Hawaii's shimmering electronic pop feels even more immediate".
