"Largely forgotten except by the avid R&B cognoscenti is Curtis' own work, which amounted to a multitude of albums and singles, many of which were recorded for Atlantic's Atco subsidiary. Curtis experienced two stints at the label, firstly in 1959, yielding an album and five 45s, while a second, more successful and productive tenure, lasted from 1965-71. This superlative, chronologically-sequenced anthology brings all of Curtis' Atco 45s and their flipsides together in a comprehensive three-disc set that includes two previously unissued tracks. It covers several musical bases, ranging from honking R&B and sweet soul ballads to pop covers, sweaty funk grooves and rock workouts".
