"Ingen tvivl om, at de spor, amerikanske Bill Laswell har sat med sin kone, Gigi Shibabaw, har stor værdi, og de kan altså spores i orkestre som Dub Colossus og Bole 2 Harlem, men der er også masser af hints til de store dage og rendyrket folklore i bands som de fede Krar Collective. Og så er der altså masser af liv i gamle stjerner som Mahmoud Ahmed, Alemayehu Eshete og ustoppelige Getachew Mercuria".

"Do we need a Rough Guide To The Music Of Ethiopia, given the range of Ethio compilations already on offer? Well, we do if it's as nicely put together as this. [The compilers] draw on the Éthiopiques series of classic recordings, contemporary Addis sounds and a healthy selection from Ethiopia's Diasporic musical communities (...) for a pleasing set that will definitely work for new listeners and likely offer a few undiscovered gems for the more seasoned Ethio-philes".
