"One of the most successful groups that crossed over from gospel to secular/soul, The Staples Singers, has four of their last releases finally reissued. While the albums don't have mega-hits like "I'll Take You There" or "Respect Yourself", there is plenty to enjoy and appreciate".

"[In 1976 The Staple Singers] signed to Warners and, after shortening their name to The Staples, issued three albums which showed a group still in great musical shape ... 1978's Unlock Your Mind, their Warners swansong and penultimate album, returned them to Muscle Shoals, Alabama where they'd recorded for Stax. Produced by Jerry Wexler with Muscle Shoals keyboardist Barry Beckett, they conjure magic on covers of Junior Parker's "Mystery Train", ELO's "Showdown" and Charlie Whitehead and Jerry Williams Jr's "Love Being Your Fool"; the latter could have been written with Mavis in mind".
