Years

Description

Summary: Years solidifies the point, Sarah Shook and the Disarmers have moved from getting people's attention to commanding it. The bands' new album-with it's sharpened songwriting, unique perspective, deepened sound and roll-up-your-sleeves attitude-will grab you by the collar and put a defiant finger to your chest. It is resolute, blunt, and unflinching.

"2015's Sidelong showed Sarah Shook & the Disarmers had plenty of potential, and Years shows there are plenty more great songs where those came from".

"Years is a compact, straight to the heart (and feet) record. Every song connects and no notes are wasted. It's a new country classic, plain and simple".

"As Years moves along, the natural limits of Shook's voice and the relatively narrow stylistic range of these tunes begins to wear thin. Songs start to blur together, and a little bit of stretching-a quick trip to the discomfort zone-would be a welcome addition to the album. Maybe next time. Or maybe not. It depends, probably, on where Shook and Shook alone wants to take this band. Until then, one thing is sure: As an exercise in exploring the various strains of left-of-center country and roots music, Years is spot on".
