"This second album confirms the promise of her debut, Silêncio. Aurora has a melodic voice - an easy fit for a genre soaked in melodrama and poignancy - but she is less severe than fado's current queen, Mariza. She writes much of her material, and arranger Javier Moreno brings eclectic shadings from flamenco and jazz. Together, they deliver both bitter and sweet ... Classy".

"Mournful, melancholic and with ominous undertones, fado lyrics are often about the life of the poor and its structural rigidity may make it sound repetitive to the uninitiated. It's worth persevering, though, as this collection by Claudia Aurora who left Porto to live in Bristol proves. The emotional longing induced by separation has freed her to reinterpret trqadition and while Amar, Soberano Destino or Promessa are conventional enough, Mulher do Norte - "I am a woman of the north, strong and true, a lover of liberty" - or Fado Florido thrillingly up the tempo. And the accompanying acoustic sextet, with Javier Moreno's arrangements, is a delight".
