"The London rapper veers between vulnerable and vicious on a mixtape that's at once epic and pared back ... [Clavish] spends most of these 90 minutes poring over his bad behaviour with much wit, if little humour. Rap Game Awful could be less monotone - recent Top 10 hit Rocket Science benefits hugely from Young Adz's alien Auto-Tune coos. Yet the chill, sparse productions foreground Clavish's economical delivery beautifully, as he flirts with imploring vulnerability and vicious querulousness without ever committing to either".

"Fearless and incisive, the north London artist's debut mixtape offers unsparing social commentary in rich, searing detail ... The powerful sense of emotion echoed across 'Rap Game Awful' is what makes the mixtape so memorable; Clavish narrates his story against a backdrop of deep subs, eerie synth melodies, and dark ambience that allow his bars to cut through with a real sharpness. If he learns to refine his output a little, there's no reason Clavish can't achieve the levels of stardom he's been tipped to reach".

"Like the clip that kickstarted Clavish's career, Rap Game Awful leaves you wanting more - just not in terms of quantity. There's an album's worth of tracks here that put Clavish head and shoulders above his peers, which only makes the other album's worth of misfires more disappointing for their inclusion. What you want more of, really, is what you suspect Clavish could do, not what you already know he can".
