"Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach had an incredibly vivid imagination, which resulted in music that one mean critic said had "the too-easy surprises of a style where anything can happen". Now his vision has found a new voice in the wonderfully acerbic, crisp, perky textures of the tangent piano, mingling harpsichord, fortepiano and harp-like sounds. The veteran Alexei Lubimov draws the maximum in sprightly vitality from his replica of a 1794 instrument".

"Instrumental choice: If CPE's music represents a synthesis of old and new, the piano exhibits similar qualities with a palette that can resemble a fortepiano squaring up to a clavichord with attitude ... Lubimov owns every exquisitely calibrated nuance ... A bouquet, too to the engineers who capture everything with such vibrant immediacy. Nothing short of a revelation".

"Editor's choice: Employing an arsenal of attack and release strategies, Lubimov draws from it a veritable rainbow of colours plus an abundant variety of sounds perfectly suited to the extravagant expressivity of Bach ... I can think of no other pianist capable of breathing such light and life, such shape and substance into this bold, wildly imaginative music. Lubimov gives us Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach in the white heat of inspiration ... Please don't miss this".
