"There's enough of the original in each song, but each is given a huge stamp by the five members of Deep Purple, making their own mark. As is the point of a cover version. While the production is big, solid and bright, there's also a live-in-the-studio feel, like it was recorded quickly and spontaneously. Listen with open ears and the album shows the band on great form, and is definitely one to thoroughly enjoy".

"At this point, one might conclude that Deep Purple are either content to turn themselves into a cover band, simply taking a breather prior to their next set of original offerings, or are merely finding themselves bankrupt as far as any new ideas of their own are concerned. Granted, they share each piece with their blustery trademark style, but even so, hearing Deep Purple cover a slice of archetypical Americana like "Battle of New Orleans" seems rather ludicrous ... Ultimately, those that are somewhat cynical might suggest that the album title is, in fact, all too apt".

"Deep Purple are developing a wicked sense of humour in the twilight of their career. They've called their new album of cover versions Turning To Crime as a jibe against us cynical rock-critic types, who generally disapprove of such nefarious releases. But the usual criticisms of covers sets - tired, lazy, uninspiring, contract-fulfilling - don't apply here. This record, which really should be titled Turning Back Time, is an absolute blast".
