"Celebrated Norwegian sax maestro Marius Neset and his compatriot classical pianist Leif Ove Andsnes here unite their skills to create an exciting hybrid, composed music that sounds improvised ... 'Who We Are' captures two musicians at the height of their powers and these meticulously composed pieces sometimes take both players outside their respective traditions ... A dynamic and highly engaging exploration of the possibilities of contemporary virtuoso chamber music".

"Featuring two doyens of their repsective genres, both sufficiently empathetic to undertake a projext exploring the interplay of classical music and jazz, this release should tick all the boxes. The main protagonists plus a couple of guests successfully create a musical environment in which the structural discipline of the former meets the spontaneity of the latter, although the results are occasionally unbalanced, both internally and in terms of programming ... All that said, many of these elements work very nicely in themselves, so it's best just to enjoy each as it comes along".

"An imaginatively conceived album featuring performances of dazzling quality that do not so much combine classical with jazz as forge unique and compelling styles of their own ... While the album's stylistic smorgasbord may appear somewhat confusing to some listeners, there's no denying the quality of technique and musicianship on display. If nothing else, 'Who We Are' demonstrates very clearly that Andsnes and Neset are far more than the classical and jazz by-products of what the music industry thinks they are".

"Et spændende møde mellem Norges bedste pianist og landets førende jazzmusiker ... Neset er kendt for sine frygtindgydende og komplekse kompositioner og sit virtuose saxofonspil. Begge musikere insisterer på, at deres projekt ikke er en fusion, men et forsøg på at finde måder hvorpå jazz og klassisk musik kan sameksistere i det samme musikstykke ... En lækker udgivelse, der får tænderne til at løbe i vand".
