"There's nothing fashionable about the Sea and Cake's music, and therein lies much of their charm. Any Day is a very singular world, and one at odds with the age of streaming and its algorithm-generated, trend-chasing playlists; it requires the listener to relinquish time and place, to make room and peace enough to enjoy their gently wrought virtuosity".

"The electronics of their earlier work are pared back, leaving their comfort zone reupholstered with goose down. But it's no great shakes, because the Sea and Cake are one of those bands who essentially put out the same album over and over again, which doesn't matter all that much - no one else sounds remotely like them: the drifting Any Day, the dreamily waltzing These Falling Arms and much else here have the cool, elegantly disheveled feel of a garden party just after the sun has gone down".

"On their first album in six years, the post-rock stalwarts bring new urgency to their signature gliding rhythms, jazz-inflected guitar lines, and analog synth tones ... The Sea and Cake's post-millennial releases often saw them embedding electronic production tics into their songcraft-to the point where latter-day singles like "Weekend" and "Harps" could almost pass for Cut Copy festival jams. Any Day strips away many of those flourishes".
